Drew HoggattEarly in Google's history, there was a meeting to decide on a corporate mission statement. The unwilling employees came up with a real cracker: "Don't Be Evil". On one level, I think this was a snub toward the mind numbing stupidity of mission statements issued by men with striped suits and wavy hair in other corporations. But it's also elegant, efficient and a useful reminder, and I have to say I almost see the point of mission statements if they are this good. Read more...

Adam Stroud What’s the best way of networking access control units?

Drew HoggattI have just finished reading a marvellous book about Cholera. "The Ghost Map" by Steven Johnson is a very interesting account of how Victorian Londoners succeeded in tracking down the root cause of the disease, but also relates how pig headed prejudice staved off this discovery for some time. Read more...

We even have our very own support staff in Barbara Lee who manages the office and coordinates literature requests and monthly mailings. Read more...

Adam StroudIf you believe everything reported in the news recently then pretty soon all of our houses are going to be worth 2p and it won’t be long before we’re all queuing for soup at the local parish hall. Although it’s unlikely that the current frenzy around the state of the economy is proportionate, there has been a serious shift in the way individuals and companies are viewing expenditure. Even ignoring the credit crunch, the housing crisis, and inflation, just the talk of a downturn is enough to trigger a more conservative approach to budgeting. So how does this affect the security industry and, more specifically, the sale of access control systems? Read more...

Drew HoggattDoorways are an occupational hazard. In our business we all spend quite a bit of time around them, annoying people wanting to get through. "Sorry" is a word often on the tip of the tongue of an access control installer during surveys and actual installations. When I have been to sites, I join in with the chorus every few minutes or so as people pass. Read more...

Adam StroudQuestion: Why would anyone pay more for an electronic access control system rather than use a conventional lock and keys?
Answer: The most fundamental advantage of an electronic access control system over lock and keys concerns the barring of tokens from the system. If a key is... Read more...
